A
country of wonders, Thailand offers the traveler many delights,
but perhaps none as spectacular as the world below its waves.
Both Koh Samui and the nearby Koh Tao provide excellent bases
for diving with wonderful coral and fish life. You will find
professional dive shops on both these islands and on Koh Pha
Ngan.
Sea kayaking is the latest water sport to arrive at Koh Samui,
after years of popularity in the bays near Phuket.
Beach rentals, professional instruction lessons, day excursions
(including fishing), coastal trips, and overnight excursions
to Ang Thong National Marine Park, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao
are also available.
If you simply want to snorkel among the rich coral and other
marine life, then there are plenty of shallow-water sites
sufficiently beautiful to hold you spellbound, long past the
time you should be out of the sun and nursing a cold drink
on shore.
The best season to dive in the Gulf of Thailand is from January
to May and from September to October when peak visibility
can reach 100-130 feet
Koh
Samui offers a wide variety of evening entertainment for all
ages, including traditional beach bars (popular with families),
western-style pubs, which feature music, videos and satellite
television, and free to enter nightclubs, which are more active
after midnight and usually continue through the pre-dawn hours.
The main action is to be found around the beaches of Chaweng
and Lamai.
However, resorts also feature their own entertainment, such
as dinner cabarets,
where professional singers and dancers display their talents
in stylish surroundings.
